The case of the unidentified remains of an unknown male have formally been identified thanks to DNA technology and the work of Staffordshire police and the publics help.

Sadly on 2nd of March a member of the public discovered the skeletal remains of what is now known to be Darren Green from Stoke-on-Trent were found on a track linking Morrisons and Festival Way at 3.40pm on Sunday, March 2.

The Family have requested privacy at this sad time but have allowed us gracefully to pay tribute to the unidentified man we urged to find a true resting place for.

In a touching statement the a spokesperson for the family said: : “Today we have been informed of the tragic loss of Darren. Our thoughts and prayers go out to everybody affected by this. “We would like to thank the emergency services and Staffordshire Police for their professionalism, care and understanding and ask that our privacy be respected at this sad time.” The also added their thanks to police for their search efforts.

A spokesperson for Staffordshire Police also commented: “The remains of a human skeleton discovered in Stoke-on-Trent have sadly been identified as missing person Darren Green. Specially-trained officers are supporting his family at this difficult time.”As part of our investigation, detectives and forensic teams, including an anthropologist, a botanist and an archaeologist, carried out a thorough inspection of the scene over a number of days. DNA analysis was used to identify Darren.”

It with a sad heart that we say goodbye to Darren Green, and a case like this shows the importance of sharing appeals and allowing police to do their job with interruption.

It was good to see that Staffordshire Police had ensured they secured the scene and gathered as much evidence into identifying Darren Green.

I don’t think it is my place to question weather the family have all the answers they need to move on but if the need arises expect me to update you on the case.
