The UKMPU has been a website that has fascinated, tormented and shocked me for many years but the biggest shock came over a week ago when I noticed the website was down and I could no longer access cases.

As the days follows I tried and tried again to no success, until recently when my unanswered questions of why were answered.

It seems there is a new website that looks a lot more inviting and warm to introduce new cases to the public, and although it is taking some time for those cases to be uploaded it’s great to see improvements being made.

I have complained for sometime about the lack of presentation and accessibility. The old website was a grey and blue colour which didn’t really feel very comforting but as you can see they have added a sunset orange to the mix which does change the whole feel of the website. It is a simple change but one that doesn’t go unnoticed.

The issue with accessibility was when searching for cases, I found it difficult to navigate around the site or find certain cases. I hope to see this improved and I am able to search for key words, for instance “blue jeans” and find cases relating to these search term.

I would also like to see more images, maps and maybe even statements, press releases in regards to cases. This is because I believe the UKMPU need to work with the public and social media content creators to help tell the unidentified peoples stories and appeals. It used to be the press who would be the go to for up to date news but with social media changing the world with how information is exchanged it is now more than ever do police need to realise we are the missing link to the public.

I would love to see updates on cases when they have been solved. This would solely be for the purpose of the press and content creators sharing appeals, as it will help with less work and provide a go to point for information, rather than play a game of Chinese whispers and get things muddled up. It would also give us a sense of achievement, knowing cases are being solved.

Lastly I hope to see more information in general on cases, for instance if there is DNA available, if there are dental impressions, what’s happening next and where they were laid to rest or if they are exhumed for examination.

Visit the website here and take advantage of some of their informational files. UKMPU
